Rebec A12S – Hi-End 8-Channel Class AB DSP Amplifier
Product Overview
The Rebec A12S is a Hi-End DSP amplifier from Rebec’s A Series, combining eight channels of Class AB amplification with an integrated digital signal processing platform.
Compared with the Rebec A8S, the A12S provides more amplifier channels, greater output power, and an upgraded DSP, DAC, and ADC architecture. Its amplifier section is divided into two power groups, with four channels delivering 80W RMS and four higher-power channels delivering 150W RMS at 4Ω.
This configuration gives the A12S greater flexibility for active car audio systems where different speaker sections may require different levels of amplifier power.
8-Channel Class AB Amplification
The Rebec A12S uses a Class AB amplifier architecture with a power transistor design.
At 4Ω, channels 1–4 deliver 80W RMS × 4CH, while channels 5–8 provide 150W RMS × 4CH.
The two power groups allow the amplifier channels to be allocated according to the requirements of different speakers within an active system. Lower-power channels can be assigned to speakers requiring less amplifier output, while the 150W channels are available for drivers with higher power demands.
When operating at 2Ω, channels 1–4 deliver 100W RMS × 4CH, while channels 5–8 increase to 250W RMS × 4CH.
This differentiated amplifier architecture is one of the key characteristics of the Rebec A12S.
Bridge Mode for Higher Power Requirements
The higher-power channels of the A12S also provide bridge capability for applications requiring additional amplifier output.
At 4Ω, channels 5–6 and 7–8 can be configured as two bridged pairs, providing up to 450W RMS × 2CH.
At 2Ω, channels 5–6 or channels 7–8 can be bridged to provide 600W RMS × 1CH.
This gives the installer additional flexibility when configuring the A12S for different loudspeaker arrangements and power requirements.
Upgraded DSP, DAC and ADC Architecture
The digital processing section represents another important difference between the A12S and A8S.
The Rebec A12S uses the ADAU1463 DSP chipset, operating at a 48kHz DSP sampling frequency. According to the provided product information, this DSP platform offers higher performance than the AK7735 used in the A8S.
The conversion stages have also been upgraded. The A12S incorporates an AK4438 DAC and PCM1840 ADC, both identified in the product information as improvements over the corresponding components used in the A8S.
Together, the ADAU1463 DSP, AK4438 DAC, and PCM1840 ADC form the core signal-processing architecture of the Rebec A12S.
System tuning is performed through PC software, allowing the installer to configure the audio processing according to the speaker system and vehicle acoustic environment.
Flexible Integration with Factory Audio Systems
The A12S provides extensive high-level connectivity for integration with factory audio systems.
It accepts up to 12 channels of high-level input at 30Vpp, making it suitable for vehicles where multiple factory audio signals need to be connected to the DSP amplifier.
Two low-level inputs supporting up to 8Vpp are also available for compatible analog sources.
On the output side, the A12S provides eight amplified high-level channels together with four low-level outputs at 2.35V, allowing processed signals to be sent to additional external amplifiers when required.
This gives the A12S the ability to operate as the main integrated DSP amplifier while still providing additional low-level outputs for system expansion.
192kHz Digital Audio Inputs
For digital sources, the A12S provides both Coaxial and Optical (Toslink) inputs, supporting signals up to 192kHz.
This allows compatible digital audio sources to connect directly to the DSP section without first relying on an analog signal connection.
Bluetooth connectivity is available through an external Bluetooth module, rather than a built-in Bluetooth receiver.
These digital and analog input options allow the A12S to be integrated into different source configurations while maintaining centralized DSP processing.
Designed for Multi-Way Active Systems
With eight integrated amplifier channels and different power levels across those channels, the Rebec A12S provides considerable flexibility for active car audio system design.
For example, the amplifier channels can be distributed among tweeters, midrange drivers, and midbass speakers according to their individual power requirements. The higher-output channels 5–8 can be reserved for speaker sections requiring more amplifier power, while channels 1–4 handle drivers with lower power demands.
The four additional low-level outputs also allow external amplification to be incorporated when the complete system requires more channels or a different power configuration.
Rather than defining one fixed speaker layout for the A12S, this architecture gives the installer flexibility to determine channel allocation according to the actual system design.
Sound Performance
The Rebec A12S is designed with an emphasis on high-resolution sound, accurate computer-based tuning, and faithful music reproduction.
Its technical specifications include a signal-to-noise ratio of more than 105dB, THD+N below 0.05%, and a frequency response from 10Hz to 22kHz.
The sound-performance concept of the A12S is therefore supported by both its Class AB amplifier architecture and its upgraded digital processing platform.
Rather than focusing solely on increased output power, the A12S combines amplification, signal processing, and conversion stages within a single Hi-End DSP amplifier platform.
Rebec A12S and Rebec A8S
Within Rebec’s A Series, the Rebec A12S represents a clear step up from the A8S in both amplification and digital processing.
The A8S uses six Class AB amplifier channels delivering 70W RMS per channel at 4Ω. The A12S expands this to eight channels, with 80W RMS × 4CH plus 150W RMS × 4CH at 4Ω.
The processing architecture also changes from the AK7735 DSP, CS4344 DAC, and MS5358 ADC used in the A8S to the ADAU1463 DSP, AK4438 DAC, and PCM1840 ADC used in the A12S.
These differences make the A12S not simply a higher-power version of the A8S, but a more extensively equipped DSP amplifier within the same A Series.
Hi-End Class AB Amplification with Greater System Flexibility
The Rebec A12S combines eight-channel Class AB amplification with an upgraded digital processing architecture to support more demanding active car audio systems.
Its differentiated 80W × 4 + 150W × 4 amplifier configuration, higher output capability at 2Ω, bridge operation, 12-channel high-level input, additional low-level outputs, and 192kHz Optical and Coaxial connectivity provide flexibility for a wide range of system configurations.
At the same time, the ADAU1463 DSP, AK4438 DAC, PCM1840 ADC, and PC-based tuning platform maintain the A Series focus on high-resolution reproduction, accurate tuning, and sound quality.
