Rebec ES812 – Hi-End 12-Channel Digital Signal Processor

Product Overview

The Rebec ES812 is a Hi-End standalone digital signal processor from Rebec’s ES Series, developed for car audio systems where precise signal processing, flexible system configuration, and sound quality are the primary objectives.

Unlike an integrated DSP amplifier, the ES812 is dedicated to audio signal processing without built-in power amplification. It provides twelve low-level output channels for connection to external power amplifiers, allowing the amplification stage to be selected and configured independently according to the requirements of the audio system.

As part of Rebec’s top-level ES Series, the Rebec ES812 is designed with a focus on balanced sound, accurate positioning, and precise system tuning.

Dedicated DSP Architecture

At the center of the Rebec ES812 is the Analog Devices ADAU1452 DSP chipset, providing the processing platform for its multi-channel audio architecture.

The DSP operates at a 192kHz sampling frequency, giving the Rebec ES812 a high-sampling-rate processing platform for digital audio signals.

Rather than combining signal processing and amplification in a single chassis, the ES812 concentrates specifically on the processing stage. This architecture allows the processor to work as the central signal-management component of a car audio system, with its processed outputs subsequently connected to dedicated external amplifiers.

For systems built around separate DSP and power amplifier components, this approach provides greater freedom in amplifier selection and overall system configuration.

12-Channel Output for Multi-Channel Systems

The ES812 provides 12 channels of low-level output, allowing it to manage complex active speaker systems with multiple independently processed channels.

The output section is specified at 17Vpp / 6Vrms, with an output impedance of 100Ω.

With twelve processed output channels available, the ES812 can serve as the signal-processing center for multi-way active systems where tweeters, midrange drivers, midbass speakers, subwoofers, or other speaker positions are assigned dedicated amplifier channels.

The final channel configuration can therefore be determined according to the actual loudspeaker layout and system design rather than being restricted by built-in amplification.

Flexible High-Level and Low-Level Integration

The Rebec ES812 provides both high-level and low-level analog inputs, giving installers flexibility when integrating the processor with different audio sources.

Its 8-channel high-level input section supports signals up to 30Vpp, providing a connection option for factory audio systems where speaker-level signals are used as the source.

For systems using preamplifier-level signals, the ES812 also provides 8-channel low-level input supporting up to 8Vpp.

The availability of eight channels for both high-level and low-level analog integration allows the processor to receive multi-channel source signals before processing and routing them to its twelve output channels.

This is particularly relevant in modern car audio installations where the original vehicle audio system may provide multiple independent audio channels rather than a conventional two-channel stereo output.

192kHz Optical and Coaxial Digital Inputs

In addition to its analog inputs, the ES812 provides both Optical (Toslink) and Coaxial digital inputs, each supporting signals up to 192kHz.

These digital interfaces allow compatible digital sources to feed the processor directly, providing an alternative signal path to the high-level and low-level analog inputs.

Built-in Bluetooth is also available as another source connection option.

By supporting factory-level analog integration, low-level analog signals, high-sampling-rate digital inputs, and wireless playback, the Rebec ES812 can operate with a variety of source configurations within a car audio system.

PC-Based System Tuning

The ES812 is tuned through PC software, allowing the processor to be configured according to the loudspeaker arrangement and acoustic characteristics of the vehicle.

In a multi-channel active system, DSP tuning plays a central role because individual speaker channels must work together as one coherent sound system.

The ES812 provides the processing platform required to manage these channels from a centralized processor while leaving amplification to dedicated external amplifiers.

This separation between signal processing and power amplification is particularly useful in systems where the installer wants greater freedom to select different amplifiers for different loudspeaker sections.

Focus on Balanced Sound

The sound-performance description provided for the Rebec ES812 emphasizes balanced sound.

In a properly configured car audio system, tonal balance is fundamental to reproducing music naturally across the audible frequency range. Rather than emphasizing a particular frequency region, the processor is intended to provide the tuning foundation for achieving a well-balanced overall presentation.

This characteristic also aligns with the role of the ES812 as a dedicated processor. Its purpose is not to add amplifier power, but to provide precise control over the audio signals before they reach the amplification and loudspeaker stages.

Accurate Sound Positioning

Another characteristic specifically identified for the Rebec ES812 is accurate positioning.

Sound positioning is particularly important in car audio because the listener is seated asymmetrically relative to the loudspeakers. The left and right speakers are positioned at different distances from the listening position, while the vehicle interior introduces additional acoustic challenges.

A multi-channel DSP platform allows the system to be tuned so that the individual loudspeaker channels work together more accurately from the intended listening position.

For the Rebec ES812, accurate positioning is therefore an important part of its sound-quality objective alongside balanced reproduction.

Designed for Dedicated Hi-End Car Audio Systems

The Rebec ES812 follows a different system philosophy from an all-in-one DSP amplifier.

Instead of integrating amplification into the processor, it provides twelve processed low-level outputs for connection to external power amplifiers. This allows the system designer to determine the amplification architecture independently.

Different external amplifiers can therefore be selected according to the requirements of the individual speaker sections, while the Rebec ES812 remains responsible for centralized signal processing and system tuning.

This architecture makes the ES812 particularly relevant to more elaborate active car audio installations where DSP processing and amplification are treated as separate stages of the system.

ES Series Positioning

The ES812 belongs to Rebec’s ES Series, also known as the Legend Series, which occupies the highest position within Rebec’s product hierarchy.

For the ES812, this positioning is reflected not by integrated amplifier power or a large collection of all-in-one functions, but by its role as a dedicated digital signal processor.

Its architecture centers on the ADAU1452 DSP platform, 192kHz processing, twelve low-level output channels, multi-channel analog integration, 192kHz Optical and Coaxial digital connectivity, and PC-based tuning.

These elements provide the foundation for a car audio system in which signal processing, external amplification, and loudspeaker configuration can each be developed as dedicated parts of the complete system.

A Dedicated Processor for Sound Quality and System Control

The Rebec ES812 is designed around a straightforward principle: concentrate on the signal-processing stage and provide the flexibility required for a sophisticated multi-channel car audio system.

With its ADAU1452 DSP chipset, 192kHz sampling frequency, 12-channel low-level output, 8-channel high-level and low-level integration, 192kHz Optical and Coaxial inputs, and PC-based tuning, the ES812 provides a dedicated processing platform for systems using external amplification.

More importantly, its design objective remains centered on the characteristics identified for the product: balanced sound and accurate positioning.
