Rebec ES812S

Digital Signal Processor

Rebec ES812S – Flagship 12-Channel Hi-End Digital Signal Processor

Product Overview

The Rebec ES812S is the flagship digital signal processor from Rebec, developed as an upgraded version of the ES812 for Hi-End car audio systems where signal quality, processing accuracy, and system control are central to the overall design.

As a dedicated DSP processor, the Rebec ES812S does not incorporate a power amplifier stage. Instead, it focuses entirely on audio signal processing and provides twelve low-level output channels for connection to external power amplifiers.

The ES812S combines an ADAU1452 DSP platform with dedicated AKM5704 ADC and PCM1690 DAC stages, together with carefully selected audio-grade components and a four-layer gold-plated circuit board. Its architecture is designed to reduce interference, improve signal-to-noise performance, and minimize distortion within the signal-processing stage.

Dedicated 12-Channel DSP Architecture

At the heart of the Rebec ES812S is the Analog Devices ADAU1452 DSP chipset, providing the processing foundation for the system.

The processor operates at a 192kHz DSP sampling frequency, while the ADAU1452 itself is specified with a 32-bit core operating at 294.912MHz.

This processing platform provides the foundation for PC-based tuning and multi-channel signal management in sophisticated active car audio systems.

With twelve low-level output channels available, the Rebec ES812S can operate as the central processor for systems using multiple external amplifiers and independently controlled loudspeaker channels.

Rather than determining a fixed system layout, the twelve-channel architecture provides flexibility for the installer to develop the speaker and amplifier configuration according to the requirements of the individual vehicle and audio system.

Dedicated ADC and DAC Stages

A significant part of the ES812S architecture is its dedicated analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion stages.

For analog-to-digital conversion, the Rebec ES812S uses the AKM5704 ADC, specified with 32-bit sampling at 192kHz and an S/N ratio of 105dB.

Digital-to-analog conversion is handled by the PCM1690 DAC, specified with 24-bit sampling at 192kHz and an S/N ratio of 113dB.

These dedicated conversion stages form an important part of the signal path, handling the transition between analog sources, DSP processing, and the analog low-level signals that are subsequently sent to external amplifiers.

The use of separate DSP, ADC, and DAC devices reflects the ES812S design as a dedicated audio processor rather than an all-in-one DSP amplifier.

Digital Audio Signal Path

For digital sources, the Rebec ES812S provides both Coaxial and Optical (Toslink) inputs supporting signals up to 192kHz.

The digital audio section incorporates a Cirrus Logic CS8422 digital audio receiver, specified for 24-bit / 192kHz operation.

This provides a dedicated digital receiving stage before the signal enters the processing architecture.

Built-in Bluetooth 5.4 is also provided for wireless audio playback, adding another source option alongside the analog and digital wired inputs.

Multi-Channel Factory Audio Integration

The ES812S is also designed to work with multi-channel analog source systems.

It provides eight high-level inputs supporting signals up to 30Vpp, allowing integration with factory audio systems where speaker-level outputs are used as the source.

In addition, eight low-level inputs supporting up to 8Vpp are available for systems using preamplifier-level analog signals.

This combination allows the Rebec ES812S to accept a relatively large number of source channels before processing and routing them through its twelve-channel output architecture.

For modern vehicles with more complex factory audio systems, this multi-channel input capability provides the necessary interface between the original source system and a separately amplified aftermarket audio configuration.

Four-Layer Gold-Plated Circuit Board

The internal hardware construction is one of the areas specifically emphasized in the Rebec ES812S product information.

The processor uses a four-layer gold-plated circuit board, with a compact and rigorous arrangement of the power supply and amplifier-related sections.

According to Rebec’s design information, this circuit architecture is intended to reduce interference, improve the signal-to-noise ratio, and minimize distortion.

This is particularly relevant in a dedicated processor, where maintaining signal integrity through the processing and conversion stages is fundamental to the overall design.

Rather than treating the PCB simply as a platform for mounting components, the Rebec ES812S uses its circuit layout as part of the engineering approach to controlling electrical interference within the processor.

Selected Audio-Grade Components

The ES812S incorporates several audio-grade capacitor families from established component manufacturers in different parts of its internal circuitry.

The audio filtering section uses ELNA audio-grade filter capacitors, while the high-level input section uses AVX audio-grade tantalum capacitors.

The main power section incorporates Rubycon audio-grade filter capacitors, while the audio output section uses PHILIPS audio-grade tantalum capacitors.

For digital filtering, the Rebec ES812S uses WIMA audio-grade capacitors.

These components are used in different functional areas of the processor rather than being presented as a single generalized component upgrade. Their inclusion forms part of the hardware design approach used in the ES812S.

High Signal-to-Noise Performance

The ES812S is specified with a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 115dB, together with THD+N below 0.05%.

Its specified frequency response extends from 20Hz to 48kHz within ±0.1dB.

These figures are particularly relevant for a dedicated signal processor because the Rebec ES812S sits upstream of the external power amplifiers. Its role is to receive, convert, process, and output the audio signal before amplification.

Maintaining a low noise level and controlled distortion through this stage therefore forms an important part of the overall system architecture.

12-Channel Low-Level Output

The processed audio signal is delivered through twelve low-level output channels, with a maximum output level of 4V.

Because the Rebec ES812S does not contain an integrated power amplifier, these outputs are intended to feed external amplifiers.

This separation gives the system designer freedom to select amplification independently from the DSP. Different amplifiers can therefore be assigned to different speaker sections according to the design objectives of the complete car audio system.

The Rebec ES812S remains responsible for centralized signal processing, while the external amplifiers provide the required power for the loudspeakers.

PC-Based Tuning and System Control

System configuration and tuning are performed through PC software.

In a multi-channel active car audio system, the DSP acts as the central control point between the audio source and the amplification stages. The Rebec ES812S provides this processing architecture across twelve output channels, allowing the complete system to be configured from a centralized platform.

This makes the processor particularly suitable for installations where the DSP, power amplifiers, and loudspeakers are treated as individual parts of a larger system rather than combined within a single integrated device.

Flagship Position in the Rebec DSP Lineup

The Rebec ES812S is positioned as Rebec’s flagship digital signal processor.

Its position is based on a dedicated Hi-End hardware architecture rather than integrated amplifier power. The design brings together the ADAU1452 DSP, AKM5704 ADC, PCM1690 DAC, CS8422 digital receiver, multi-channel analog inputs, 192kHz digital connectivity, twelve low-level outputs, and a carefully constructed internal circuit platform.

The four-layer gold-plated PCB and the use of audio-grade components from ELNA, AVX, Rubycon, PHILIPS, and WIMA further distinguish the hardware design of the ES812S.

Together, these elements define the Rebec ES812S as a processor developed specifically for Rebec’s highest-level car audio systems.

A Dedicated Hi-End Processor for Rebec’s Top-Level Systems

The Rebec ES812S is built around the principle of separating high-level digital signal processing from power amplification.

Its 12-channel output architecture provides the flexibility required for sophisticated active systems, while the ADAU1452 DSP, AKM5704 ADC, PCM1690 DAC, and CS8422 digital receiver provide dedicated processing and conversion stages throughout the signal path.

At the hardware level, the four-layer gold-plated circuit board and carefully selected audio-grade components support Rebec’s objective of reducing interference, improving signal-to-noise performance, and minimizing distortion.

Combined with multi-channel analog integration, 192kHz Optical and Coaxial inputs, Bluetooth 5.4, PC-based tuning, and a signal-to-noise ratio above 115dB, the ES812S serves as the central signal-processing platform for Rebec’s most sophisticated Hi-End car audio systems.
